What is the difference between wood and faux-wood blinds?
Faux wood blinds have only recently become more widely available and popular due mainly to their cost advantage. They look much like real wood and are more resistant to moisture, scratches, and breakage. However, wood insulates better and gives a room a warm feel.
What are Ladders?
They are the material that supports the slats of the blind. The wider the blind the more ladders there are. The standard ladder is a braided cord.
What are Headrails, Bottomrails, and Valance?
Headrails are the aluminum top of the blind. They hold the mechanical components that operate the blind. They are hidden from view by the valance. Bottomrails are made of the same material as the blind slats (i.e. wood or faux-wood) and are usually 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick and are positioned at the bottom of the blind. Valances are made of the same materials as the blind slats (i.e. wood or fauxwood) and hides the headrail at the top of the blind.
What are Spacers, Hold-Down, and Support Brackets?
Spacers are used with mounting brackets to provide additional room between the mounting surface and the blind. A common use for spacers is when installing a blind over raised trim. Hold-down brackets hold the blind bottomrail in place, such as on a door. Support brackets provide additional support for the center of the headrail. They are included with blinds over 48 inches wide.
What are Lift & Tilt Controls?
Lift controls raise and lower the blind. Tilt controls, available in either wand or cord, open and close the blind slats. |
